It's rare to find three talented musicians working together, and even rarer to find them using their talents as a production and DJing power trio. Jaded cottoned on to how well they work together, and formed to make gang who behind the decks play to each other's strengths. They dropped us off an exclusive mix ahead of their slot playing the Get Twisted Records party on April 18th, and had a chat about what it is to be in Jaded.

 

 

MoS: Thanks for doing an exclusive mix for us, what did you go for? Is this representative of what you play out now or more what you listen to at home?

Jaded: Thanks for having us. Yeah, this mix is a representation of the kind of tunes that we play out right now and the club tracks that we feel represent our collective characters. We’ve also included a few of our new tunes and an exclusive SBTRKT dub!

 

For those who may be new to your music, how would you describe your sound?

Bassy, energetic, percussive house with a sprinkle of quirky vocal hooks.

 

How did you first get into music, when did you know you wanted to be DJs?

We all got into music via different routes. Teo started DJing at the age of 12, Jordan began singing & songwriting at 15 and Nari was producing and playing multiple instruments in various world music bands from a young age. We all knew we wanted to be music producers and as soon as we started getting into the club scene we fell in love with dance music and DJing.

 

How are you finding the move from individual artists to a DJ trio?

 Pretty easy to be honest. We’ve worked together on different projects for over 4 years as a production/songwriting team. We first met at a studio in West London and soon realised that we can compliment each other’s skills perfectly when it comes to making a tune. We apply the same ethos to Jaded when it comes to DJing and producing. All 3 of us serve a purpose and we’ve become pretty good at knowing when to step in to do our part and when to let the other person get on with it.

 

What have you got coming up on the horizon?

We’ve got loads of new music coming out this year. We have an EP dropping on Black Butter Records soon, which we’re excited about, more music on Get Twisted Records and a remix we just did for The Prototypes on Viper. We’re DJing quite a bit now, playing the Black Butter parties in Sheffield alongside Gorgon City, Huxley, Kidnap Kid and loads more. 

 

What do you think of the state of dance music at the minute?

It’s in a good place right now. There’s a lot of experimentation going on in the underground scene and it’s great to see the lines between the genres blurring.

 

Who are the most exciting underground artists that our readers might not have heard of, but who you think will be big names to come?

Right now we’re feeling Sly One who are also a trio and always deliver the dirtiest bass lines. Another favourite of ours is Taiki Nulight. His tunes are always guaranteed to get the crowd going on the dance floor.

 

How do you find working as a trio, do you take it in turns to mix tracks in when preforming or are you working together?

We sometimes go back to back when Djing but if one of us is in the zone taking care of business then we let that person do their thing, however the tune selection is very much done by all 3 of us. One of us usually ends up getting on the mic at some point too. 

 

What do you like to do on your day off, what’s a typical Sunday like for you?

A typical Sunday for us consists of chilling at the studio, hungover and not getting any work done whilst watching Vine comps, football and sampling the life out of the Internet.

 

How do you prepare for a gig?

We usually prepare for a gig by downloading tunes and making our own special dubs in the week. On the night we make sure to get to the club an hour before our set and try to keep drinking to a minimum.

 

Tell us something we don’t know about Jaded…

A lot of people don't know that Nari is a fully qualified Pharmacist and still practices pharmacy from time to time. Something else that you might not know about us is that all the vocals on our tracks are done by us, even the gully Jamaican ones).
