In a statement that’s shocked fans of UK garage across the nation, DJ EZ has announced he will no longer be wearing his Nike baseball hat

His trademark headpiece has become a garment synonymous with furious mixing, sweaty dancefloors and vibes of unparalleled levels. It’s been attached to his head since playground days at the very least.

Conspiracy theories abound, we’ve tried to wade through the rumours with a few of our own.

NIKE HAVE REPLACED HIM

If EZ’s hat wearing has been the result of a brand sponsorship, nobody’s said too much about it. However, the fickle consequence of being paid to do something by a massive company may be taking effect, and we can only speculate who may have taken his place as hat wearing don behind the decks. Read what you will into this recent tweet by Preditah…

EZ HAS SIGNED A DEAL WITH SPORTS BANGER

On the flipside, it’s more likely that EZ has replaced Nike. He needs them less than they need him, that’s for certain.

Possible new stockists of headwear might include Sports Banger, the ultimate purveyors of wavey garms. Favoured by the likes of Skream and Yasmin (catch her playing here on Boxing Day), maybe EZ has signed a deal to only wear this hat from now on.

HE’S TIRED OF BEING IN THE ILLUMINATI

This reliable source of information has suggested Nike has been drinking “Illuminati-tainted Kool Aid”, whatever that means. Bored of the emails from Kanye and Jay Z that keep ending up in his junk mail, and exhausted with feeling like he’s about to find his house burned down, EZ severs all contact with Nike.

HIS BRAIN IS BURSTING OUT OF HIS HEAD

We joked earlier this year when DJ EZ suggested that he'd be changing his hat to a larger model. Now we know the truth.

He's Sick Of These Tracy Beaker Rumours

A few months back, the internet had a collective meltdown when we discovered that Luke and Tracy from Tracy Beaker look EXACTLY like childhood versions of EZ and Annie Mac. Both dance titans vehemently denied the rumours, but everyone decided to believe them anyway. Maybe he thinks by ditching the hat people will finally stop asking him if he was in Tracy Beaker, which of course is nonsense. Because we will never stop asking him.

HE’S DECIDED TO GROW HIS HAIR

The man wants a new style, the hat’s going to get in the way, end of story. Announcing the decision on Twitter is probably just his way of pre-empting the barrage of questions he’ll get when he plays a show sans hat. Simple explanation really.
