Day one at ADE was like the best freshers night ever

Amsterdam Dance Event is the biggest industry shindig in Europe and sees thousands of artists perform at hundreds of events over five days, we'll be on the ground bringing you all the news, gossip and goings on.

Getting in to Amsterdam late last night there was barely enough time to catch our breath before the first of a seemingly endless waves of parties snared us in their bassy claws. The conference has always erred on the underground, headsy, side (with the obvious exception of the Top 100 DJs circus), but my first night in 'dam was surprisingly soundtracked predominantly by the Big Tunes of my uni days.

First off we found Partysquad bringing soundsystem vibes and a whole host of special guests including Toddla T, Ms Dynamite and Lethal Bizzle then we hopped over to Chicago Social Club for a tour de force from DJ EZ and DJ Barely Legal.

Maybe it was the very strong UK contingent or perhaps the opening night atmosphere demanded classics, but either way we were treated to a selection of the biggest and best tunes from the halcyon days of pound-a-pint SUs and Halls parties.

Here are some of the unexpected bangers we heard last night.

Ms Dynamite - "Dy Na Mi Tee"

The theme tune to every BNOC's pre-sess sass up.

Julio Bashmore - 'Battle For Middle You'

The soundtrack to a thousand pre-lash games of ring of fire.

DJ Fresh - "Gold Dust"

Those opening synth stabs are the herald of a swiftly-necked Turbo Shandy followed by a sprint to the dance floor.

Cheryl Cole - "Back 2 The Start" (Four Tet Remix)

The go to night bus sing-a-long song for the plastics after a night dancing on tables in Vodka Revs.

Booka Shade - "Night Falls"

The back to mine halls room hot box anthem.
