The countdown to Space closing for the last time begins, and Radio One have featured Carl Cox's birthday as a tributary essential mix

 

Recorded live in Ibiza, it's two hours of Cox at his finest. He speaks to Pete Tong before going on to play his set, calling the Space wind down going out in "fine style".

Noir & Olivier Giacomotto - "Reste" (Raxon Remix)

This blistering cut from Raxon’s remix pile gets special treatment, in that its allowed to languish over the speakers, as Cox masterfully builds and drops it onto an eager crowd. Adrian Hour - "Like This"

A figurehead of techno from the Toolroom Records family, Adrian Hour’s ‘Like This’ lands just as Cox hits the second quarter. A tech house nightmare from one of South America’s fundamental DJ’s right, ‘Like This’ turns a DJ set into an essential mix. Listen out for several more Adrian Hour tracks throughout the mix.

 

Deetron - "Photon"

Already a classic in the Carl Cox cannon despite its relative infancy, "Photon" has got a build-up made for superclubs. Its components - simple yet executed with painstaking precision - result in maximum pleasure for the ears.

 

Chus & Ceballos, Stefano Noferini - "Mamasitas:

Lightening the mood a touch and serving a pleasant reminder of Space’s Balearic surroundings, Cox uses the vocals and percussion of ‘Mamasitas’ as a perfect sandwich filler to two much denser tracks. Uplifting and joyous.

 

DJ Hyperactive - "Eyes Wide Open" (Len Faki DJ Edit)

Organ grinding and just the right type of sinister for a Carl Cox set, this Len Faki edit of DJ Hyperactive’s "Eyes Wide Open" takes the original down a peg or two, unfurling it for positioning at the end of a Space set.
