Tall Paul explores 25 years of Ministry of Sound anthems

Any birthday is fitting reason to dance throughout the night. But celebrating two and a half decades at the forefront of clubbing culture, gives even more cause to let loose and throw shapes till dawn! Especially with The Gallery having proudly called 103 Gaunt Street their cherished home for nine of these twenty five years, a significant period which means an extra special gift awaits.

So Gallery founder and resident TALL PAUL is gift-wrapped in preparation to rock the club’s intimate 103 space, with a retrospective performance for Ministry of Sound’s iconic CD series ‘The Annual.’  Especially to celebrate Paul has lovingly crafted this mix of twenty five tracks. That’s one representing each year of the club’s illustrious history and a poignant teaser featuring defining anthems from The Annual plus those which Paul regards as pivotal to his famed Gallery residency down the years.

Arguably the most revered compilation in this genre and responsible for converting many to a 4/4 beat, The Annual is synonymous with both Ministry and Paul himself – after curating the seminal ‘Millennium Edition’ which affirmed both as ambassadors for electronic music around the world.

With hundreds of tracks conceivably to choose from, Paul also provides a narrative as to why each selected bears a personal significance.  So listen whilst you work and read the tracklist below...

Tall Paul will be these and many more Ministry of Sound classics at part one of our double-header birthday party on Friday 2nd September. Tickets here

TRACKLIST:

The Bucketheads – "The Bomb"

Tall Paul: Heard this first on the old Ministry system and it blew me away. Still enjoy that moment today.

Jaydee – "Plastic Dreams"

Another ground breaker, crossed over to all DJs and all styles of house music.

Tori Amos – "Profesional Widow" (Armand van Helden Remix)

Armand was on a roll with his unique sound and this was the pinnacle of that era.

X-Press 2 – "Smoke Machine"

X-Presss 2 always featured at the club heavily, still one my favourites - we all know the others but when this one drops it’s a moment.

Tall Paul – "Precious"

It was only the reaction from the Gallery crowd that we decided to put it out, otherwise we would have shelved it.

Pryda – "Layers"

Difficult to choose one tune from Eric Prydz, as his music has featured so much at the Gallery.

Spectrum – "Kinda New" (Tiefschwarz Dub)

Reflekt – "Need To Feel Loved"

A Gallery master. Seb Fontaine dropping this for the first time sent the place crazy. Been a Gallery favourite ever since.

M.I.K.E. – "Universal Nation"

Pretty much anything from this guy was dropping, but "Universal Nation" took it to another level.

Grace – "Not Over Yet"

A massive early fave at the Gallery, still gets a sing along now.

The Chemical Brothers

Again, difficult to choose one track as Chems have played a huge part of the clubs progression.

Daddy's Favourite – "I Feel Good Things For You"

Banger that still drops today.

Basement Jaax – "Jump and Shout"

Proper London vibe…

Jam And Spoon – "Odyssey to Anyoona"

One of my all time tunes, an absolute epic from start  to finish.

Duex – "Sun Rising Up"

A personal favourite here, got everything I like about a House tune.

DJ Sandy – "Overdrive"

All ways liked playing this one, one of the big Gallery favs

Durango 95 – "5:55"

A tune made specific to be played at 5.55am only for the hardcore…

Push – "The Legacy"

Made such an impact , Mike’s production and music was a massive influence.

Underworld – "Dark & Long"

A late night classic when we used to raise the tempo heading towards the close...

Binary Finary – "1998" (Matt Darey Remix)

A roof raiser for many nights.

Aphrohead – "The Light"

Thunderous techno not to be played before 4am.

Deadmau5 & Kaskade – "I Remember"

"I Remember" - the sort of tune that gets played in all the rooms, still sounds huge.

Tall Paul/Dave Aude – "Common Ground"

A Gallery classic, brings back lots of memories of Turnmills.

London Grammar – "Hey Now" (Arty Remix)

Loved this remix, massive floor filler.

Faithless – "God Is A DJ"

Anything by one of the biggest dance acts, Sister Bliss has been with us from the beginning so had to be in this list.
