The rumours are true, TomorrowWorld will not return this year
As beleaguered parent company, SFX, files for bankruptcy, the future of TomorrowWorld has been uncertain for a number of months. Earlier this week we brought you news that SFX had confirmed they were putting beloved digital market place Beatport up for auction.
TomorrowWorld was conspicuously absent from the announcement, but the festival has had enough of it's own problems over the past year. The 2015 edition was mired in controversy as a combination of adverse weather and bad planning left thousands of attendees stranded overnight in the Chattahoochee Hills.
Attempts to reimburse those affected also resulted in a PR meltdown as the festival first refunded the full amount to ticket holders, before deciding that was too much and recharging for two thirds of the refund. This - understandably - left people pretty pissed off.
A emotional look back video tried to temper relations between the festival and its critics, but the damage had already been done and the future of the event was looking uncertain even before SFX went into administration.
Today they've released a statement which you can read in full below. Although this is a definite low for the TomorrowLand brand, solace can be sought in the fact the original Belgian iteration of the festival sold out in record time this year, without even announcing headliners. Also Tomorrowland Brazil has just announced a heavyweight lineup for this year.
