Lets put the fun back into complaining

It’s that time of year again - the DJ Mag Top 100 DJ Poll - when the readers of DJ Magazine vote for their favourite DJ, and then DJs and Producers complain about it on social media.

We don't know about you, but we're getting to the point where we're as bored by the people complaining about the poll as we are by the results. So this year we thought why not spice it up a little?

Bring the fun back to arbitrarily ranking DJs based on undefined criteria. Have a laugh with it, like it was in the good old days, you know?

So this year we're proud to present: DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Bingo!

You can play along at home too! Simply get on Twitter as the results are released then award yourself a point for every time you spot one of the five cookie-cutter reactions below.

Keep your eyes peeled and good luck!

1. "The DJ Mag Top 100 DJ Poll is not relevant”

Loads of people say this every year. For the record, ‘not relevant’ generally means either “I’m not in the Top 100”, “I will never get in the Top 100’, or “I am no longer part of the DJ Mag demographic and am getting unnecessarily upset by a poll voted for by the generation after me.”

2. “Who decides who gets in the DJ Mag Poll?”

People always ask this when they see that the results are mostly white and almost exclusively male - and then they get really angry at DJ Mag that there aren’t enough black/brown/female/gay DJs. Whilst these absences are rather glaring and need to be addressed in our larger culture, it’s hardly the result of deliberate self-sabotage on behalf of DJ Mag to appear sexist, racist or homophobic, it’s simply that the poll reflects the tastes of their readership, who tend to be into EDM. Getting angry at DJ Mag about the contents of the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs is like not voting in the general election and then going and punching the voting booths because you don’t like the result.

3. “I don’t know what the DJ Mag Poll is”

Some DJs are just so cool, so ahead of the curve, they don’t even know things anymore.

4. “We should just let the music do the talking”

Zzzzzz…. Oh I’m so sorry, I dropped off for a moment, you were saying something? Something about letting the music *yawn* do the….zzzzzz…

5. “We shouldn’t have DJ Polls, we should have [insert something that isn’t a DJ Poll here] instead”

Like walking into a birthday party, turning off the music and insisting everyone talk about global warming instead.

BONUS POINT: this picture

The first person to reach five points wins, but instead of yelling "bingo!" you must tweet the name of an uber-fashionable artist that hasn't made the top 100, oh and don't forget to hashtag, #Top100DJBingo
