Luxury Fyre Festival Descends Into Lord of the Flies

Social media has today been filled with reports of the diabolical collapse of Ja Rule’s ‘luxury’ festival in the Bahamas, Fyre Festival. Due to feature performances from Blink 182, Skepta and Rae Stemmurd, the festival promised ‘a cultural moment created from a blend of music, art and food’ but the reality is more like a moment from a disaster movie.

 

Here is what festival goers thought they were attending. 

 

 

Tickets for the event ranged from a whopping $4000 to $12,000. These included a flight from Miami, a stay in a “geodesic dome” and activites such as yoga and kayaking. As the first night of the festival launched more and more reports from those attending flooded the internet. Not quite the Coachella rival they expected.

Which have been compared to disaster relief tents...

 

The festival promised, along with many other 'luxury' aspects, "chef-curated culinary pop-ups" and five star festival food. (Perhaps on a 50 star scale?)

 

Despite the festival being endorsed by the likes of Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid, alarm bells may have started ringing for some as Blink 182 issued this statement only days before:

"Regrettably, and after much careful and difficult consideration, we want to let you know that we won't be performing at Fyre Fest in the Bahamas this weekend and next weekend," a tweet from the band's account reads. "We're not confident that we would have what we need to give you the quality of performances we always give fans."

Probably a wise move as this was the artist area. 

 

 Other reports from those on the island claim there have been thefts of belongings from people's tents, luggage thrown out of trucks, violence from security, feral dogs and now being locked in a room. 

 

This was the festival's response to the controversy that has ended as more 'Lord of The Flies' than SXSW. Ja Rule is yet to comment.
