For those who don't know, the DMC Championship is like the World Cup for scratch DJs. Turntablists across the world compete in their home nations, with the winners clashing on the international stage to be crowned DMC Champ.

Previous winners have included Mixmaster Mike, Q-Bert, A-Trak and our own Oneman. Winning the DMC Championship is a sign of unparalleled skill and usually leads to a long and successful career to come.

In all it's 32 year history, DMC USA has never crowned a female champ, that is until this week when New York's DJ Perly took home the gold. Raised in the home of hip hop, New York's The Bronx, Perly beat of stiff competition to claim the golden mixer.

Speaking on the day she said; "When I heard my name as the USA champ, I was surprised and just overwhelmed with joy. I was so overwhelmed I kinda lost feeling in my legs and dropped to the floor. That moment truly felt magical and gratifying that hard work was paying off.”

DJ Perly will now represent the US at the world championship, which will be held in London on 1st October.
