The announcement we're all waiting for still hasn't arrived

 

 

Sorry to be the barer of bad news, but the Daft Punk Alive 2017 video uploaded to YouTube on New Year's Day is certainly a fake. Before we get into why, lets do a quick refresher: a mysterious video featuring Daft Punk's Alive 2007 visuals over crowd sounds was uploaded to YouTube on 1st January with a strange series of numbers as the description.

It didn't take reddit long to clock that the numbers were coordinates and that those coordinates matched up perfectly with the locations of Daft Punk's Alive 2006/2007 tour. Unfortunately we're 99.9% certain that this is just the latest in a stream of rumours relating to the long hoped for Alive 2017 Tour.

Our main evidence that this is a fake comes from the list of coordinates match up far too perfectly to the wikipedia entry for the Alive 2006/2007 tour. The tour is hitting the exact same locations in the exact same order. Basically it looks a lot like a copy and paste job.

And while you could argue that Alive 2006/2007 is so cemented in dance music legend, that Daft Punk could want to replicate the locations to the letter, there's one glaring anomaly and that is Stratford-upon-Avon. Yep, you read that right, Stratford-upon Avon is the key to the whole thing. 

Why?

Whereas a Daft Punk tour is guaranteed to visit LA, London, Paris etc, why the hell would it go to Stratford-upon-Avon? Well in 2007 there was a very obvious reason for them to visit Stratford - Global Gathering. Global Gathering was one of the UK's biggest dance music festivals, but it hasn't been in operation since 2014 and there have been no announcements about a 2017 date. So unless the robots are planning to host their own one-off gig at Long Marston Airfield, the copy and paste theory is looking very likely indeed.

 

We want this as much as you, and for what it's worth we're still optimistic that an announcement will come from the Daft Punk camp sometime this year, but unfortunately this isn't it.
