Preview: Farr Festival 2017

Buried deep in the deserted forest of Bygrave Woods, for four days in July, you will find wild woodland creatures, some of the best names in underground electronic music and carefree hedonism at its finest. With less than three weeks to go, we are gearing up for the most ambitious edition yet. Now in its eighth year, the boutique dance music festival has organically evolved and firmly entrenched itself in the festival calendar.

Originally starting as a party in the woods for close friends and family, the Hertfordshire festival has steadily grown to welcome 5000 revellers whilst still maintaining the charm, magic and intimacy it started out with. The most notable addition this year is the new main stage ‘The Factory’. Made up of 52 shipping containers and featuring a custom-built L-Acoustics sound system, it will inevitably steal the show providing a unique space for 2500 to dance in the middle of an enchanted woodland. Headliners for 2017 include Booka Shade, Todd Terje, Nao, Mungo’s Hi Fi and General Levy.

 

 

 

Each and every year the Farr Festival line up is concise yet swollen with variety, mixing a handful of immediately recognisable names with lesser known, new underground talent. There is also a lot to be said for the curation of this captivating festival. Along with the impressive main stage, The Hydra and Abandon Silence will host The Shack featuring established talent Floating Points, Mano Le Tough and Leon Vynehall as well as newcomers Willow and Or:la. The Adventures of Success stage boasts a heavy line up for the entire weekend featuring sets from Helena Hauff, Sassy J and Panorama Bar resident Tama Sumo. Better still staples of New York City dance culture, Mister Saturday Night will dazzle you with disco at the Hidden Palace, with Detroit native Omar-S and Mr G (Live) to follow in days after.

 

 

 

There is no doubt this year will eclipse all past years, with the unveiling of increased licensing times and The Factory as well as a line up that is sure to deliver music of the highest calibre. Accompanying the great selection of electronica, Farr Festival is also offering the usual delicious street food stalls, yoga tents, vintage clothing pop-ups and a fairground. With such a solid line up, re-imagined venue and wonderfully inclusive vibe, Farr Festival 2017 promises to be a weekend you do not want to miss.
