Few DJs can count a career as storied and successful as that of Danny Tenaglia. The New York native his now in his fourth decade as a professional DJ and has held more residencies than you can count. Known and loved on both sides of the Atlantic, Danny is as at home behind the decks in Ibiza as he is in New York.

Danny will be the first of many incredible DJs to play our new series of stripped back events in partnership with The Hyrda, In Stereo. This will see us put sound and talent front and centre and what better DJ to kick things off than Danny Tenaglai.

As we gear up to welcome him to the opening night of The Hydra In Stereo, we decided to take a look back at some of the many high points of Danny's jaw-dropping career.

Cheers Miami

In 1985 Danny left his native New York to take a job as resident DJ for Miami's Cheers nightclub. This residency along with Danny's work as a journalist for Billboard music played no small part in putting the burgeoning Winter Music Conference on the map. Danny would go on to play for 29 consecutive years at WMC.

Deep State - "Waiting For A Call"

Danny hit the studio in 1988 and came up with his Deep State concept. It was picked up by Atlantic, who put out "Waiting For A Call". Danny credits the track with sparking his interest in remixes and led to him creating remixes for a range of major artists over the course of his career.

Pet Shop Boys - "Before" [Danny Tenaglia Mix]

One of those major remixes was his version of "Before" by the Pet Shop Boys. This track went on to be nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Remix.

Kings of Tomorrow - "Finally" (Danny Tenaglia Remix)

But probably the remix of which he is most proud is his rework of Kings of Tomorrow's iconic "Finally". Danny has stated in interviews that he is proud of this track for two reasons in particular. Firstly because he received a phone call from Carl Cox, who loved the track so much he was listening to it on repeat. And secondly because he was working on it during 9/11 and so the record has taken a poignant importance.

Danny Tenaglia - "Be Yourself"

The words "Be Yourself" would become incredibly important to Danny's career. He first used them as the title for his life-affirming track with Celeda, and would use the words to name perhaps his most important residency, at New York's Vinyl. it was here that Danny became known for his extended DJ sets of 8 hours and over, as Vinyl was one of the few remaining American clubs that operated without an alcohol licence and therefore could stay open much longer.

Be @ Space

For ravers on this side of the pond, Danny is probably most revered for his long running residency at the dearly departed Space, Ibiza. Be @ Space was a continuation of his legendary New York residency, Be Yourself. The residency ran until 2017 when Space closed it's doors.

Space Final Chapter

Danny was one of crack team of DJs invited to play the Space closing party extravaganza by Carl Cox and Pepe Rosello.

Danny's Loft

For a man who's held residencies at so many of the world's greatest clubs, it comes as little surprise that he'd eventually turn his personal residence into a club. Danny's Loft in the industrial quarter of Long Island City has become one of New York's most fabled after hours spots. The main room houses the last system ever installed by respected sound engineer Gary Stewart. Also featuring a replica if the neon Paradise Garage sign, a suit of armour and a fake elephant head mounted on the wall, this all white space is one of the most unique places to dance on the planet. These days the after parties have all but ceased, but the space is to be put to use hosting seminars and talks to educate the next wave of NY talent.

Danny will play the first of our new series The Hyrda In Stereo on Sun 1st October, tickets and more info here.
